James Marshall Moorhead joined Adams and Reese in 2011 as an Associate in the firm’s St. Petersburg office as part of the Transactions Practice Group.
The Bradenton native has years of professional experience in diverse practice areas including commercial litigation, workouts of complex commercial transactions, construction, and government procurement. His most recent experience at Adams and Reese includes interest rate swap agreement litigation on behalf of institutional clients under the guidelines promulgated by the International Swap and Derivatives Association, Inc. (ISDA).
Marshall previously served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps. In his final assignment with the United States Marines in 2010, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and served as the attorney Officer-In-Charge for procurement and regulatory compliance. While deployed, Marshall deconflicted combat and humanitarian assistance funding streams between the Department of Defense, Department of State, NATO, and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan through his drafting of bilateral technical agreements and memorandums of agreement. He also resolved international intellectual property issues regarding the United States Copyright Act and Berne Convention and was relied upon by senior officers to provide ethics legal advice.

Marshall received several military awards including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and NATO International Security Assistance Force Service Medal.
Marshall earned his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in 2006, and his B.A. in Economics from the University of South Florida Honors College in 2004. Marshall studied International Relations at the University of Cambridge, Magdalene College, in Cambridge, England, and he completed an Exchange Semester during law school at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England, where he studied international intellectual property law and International Humanitarian Law.
Marshall is a graduate of the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island, and also has completed numerous courses at the United States Army JAG School in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States Air Force JAG School in Montgomery, Alabama, and United States Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.
In his spare time, Marshall enjoys spending time with his family, photography, SCUBA diving, saltwater fishing, and watching Tampa Bay Rays baseball.
