Fred Catfish Abbott

Case Conclusion Date:August 26, 2005

Practice Area:Medical Malpractice

Outcome:Obtained $5.9 million judgment against NAS Jax

Description:In August 2005, U.S. District Judge Henry Adams awarded a blind Jacksonville boy and his parents $5.9 million after finding his blindness was caused by negligence at the hospital's emergency room at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The 9-year-old boy was taken there in 2001 with a severe asthma attack and lapsed into unconsciousness when staff failed to give him two of three asthma medications. "These are wonderful people who deserved better than they got at NAS Jax," said the family's attorney, Fred Abbott. The Florida Times Union, November 26, 2005
