I'm trying to avoid a theft conviction on my record. Are there any alternative charges that prosecutors will agree to ... to avoid a "theft" conviction?
Why would the prosecutors want to make a deal with you? If you're the question asker who has already given them a written confession and they have video tape of you there is no reason for the prosecutor to make a deal unless they're working with your attorney.See question

Unfortunately, solicitations for attorneys are not allowed on the site. You will have to find an attorney by using Google, or any other search engine, or the find a lawyer tab at the top of this page, or by calling the Roanoke bar association or the Virginia Bar Association to request a referral.
As you may know, and and "at will" employment state, and employee may be fired for any reason at all, or no reason at all, so long as there are no union protections, no written employment contract (rare), and the termination is not an illegal termination against a protected class of persons. that all boils down to, the employee a sensually works at the whim of the employer, so you can imagine where in employer needs no reason to fire somebody, where there is a "past history" you're even in a more precarious position. nothing you posted here indicates discrimination, but perhaps you left those details out for good reason and that would be the basis for having a discussion with a Roanoke area employment attorney. Good luck to you.See question
a employee recorded a conversation without the consent of the other party
As a general rule, in a one party consent state, as long as one of the participants in the conversation has given consent, making such a recording is legal.
No way to tell about the situation you described since we don't know whether the employee who recorded the conversation, was also part of the conversation.See question

The officer almost certainly will never be charged with any crime. They were responding to a call that you made, and taking action an effort to help your husband. Sounds to me like they're acting in good faith and neither a suit, nor charges will stand IMHO.
That said, you must first make a claim against a municipality/Police before you file any kind of lawsuit. If you do not make your claim properly, within the very short time allotted to do so, you will never be allowed to sue. Strongly recommend you contact him Michigan attorney and talk about the many details to determine how to properly file a claim.See question

Speak to a lawyer in your area about the details, many of which you may have let out of your post. Nothing in your post clearly indicates you have grounds to sue, nothing in your post indicates protocols were not followed and even if they were not, that does not mean you would have grounds to sue an entity that is immune from suit.See question
