  • How do I choose a good PI trial attorney

I need a good trail attorney

    Dean’s Answer

Run, fast, away from any personal injury lawyer who asks you to put up money to handle your case. Most highly successful PI lawyers advance all expenses for your case. If a lawyer doesn't have the confidence in your case to advance the expenses, he/she may not be a very good lawyer. Also run away from any lawyer who tells you what your case is "worth" without reviewing all of the pertinent medical records that will be necessary to evaluate the extent of your injuries. Finally, insist that any agreement for representation be put into writing in which the amount of the fee (typically one-third of the recovery) and the obligation to advance and repay the expenses. Finally, check to see how the lawyer is "rated" by his/her peers. Martindale-Hubbell and AVVO are good sources of information about how "respected" the lawyer is in the profession. An A-V rating from Martindale-Hubbell and/or an "Excellent" rating from AVVO indicates that the lawyer is well-respected in the legal community.
