How do I know the reviews are from real contacts?

Avvo provides an open forum for people who have hired or consulted with an attorney to share their experience. We have checks in place to help keep those reviews authentic and fair for both consumers and lawyers.

How we keep reviews authentic

  • Require users to register before submitting a review.
  • Use automated checks to spot obvious issues.
  • Encourage the Avvo community to flag reviews that seem suspicious or incorrect.
  • Apply our Community Guidelines, which set the rules for reviews on Avvo.
  • Review flagged or disputed reviews against those guidelines and remove them if they don’t reflect a genuine client experience or violate our policies.
  • Ensure reviews and their moderation are never influenced by payment; attorneys cannot pay to improve or remove reviews.

Our role is to enforce these policies so the review system remains trustworthy, but we do not investigate or decide legal or factual disputes between clients and attorneys. For more information on how reviews work, see What are reviews?

If you believe a particular review violates the Community Guidelines, please contact Customer Care.
