Question

Can I get kicked out of a private event for being late?

My team and I participated in the St. James Court Art Show, and we were ejected from the event by the show director for being 20 minutes late opening our booth on the second day. We were told to shut down immediately and were denied the opportunity to reopen.

I’ve reviewed the exhibitor agreement and it does not appear to contain any provision stating that tardiness or delayed opening is grounds for removal. The only relevant clause says that the Executive Director can eject an artist if a provision of the contract is violated, but there’s no mention of lateness as a violation.

I’d like your advice on whether this ejection could be considered wrongful or outside the scope of the agreement, and what possible remedies or next steps we might have. Furthermore I would like to open for the last day of the show (tomorrow) but the organizer brought in police and told them that because it was his private event he didn’t even need any sort of excuse to kick me out and that I needed to leave. Can I still open my booth tomorrow or could I just sue them later for loss of business? These shows are part of my main source of income
