Can i file a petition in nys to terminate the father of my son's rights for abandonment?
My sons father lives only 30 minutes from us, he's never made my son a priority and has never been a constant in my sons life. To date he has not seen my son, next month will be a year and hasn't spoke to him in over 6 months. My number has never changed since my son was born and is now 11. I told him he could get ahold of my son on my phone and I've never stopped him from being a dad. I've actually been the one to put the effort in for them to have a relationship. I used to bring my son to his house and pick him up , I used to be the one to set up their time together or he wouldn't, my son doesn't want anything more to do with his father after the many years of lies broken promises and never being a priority. He is the reason my son struggles with mental health and anger. He made him feel like he wasn't enough. I just want him completely out of our lives so I don't have to worry about them sending my son with him if anything should happen to me. How do I go about this. Also let me add my wife has been taking care of my son since he was in prek.
This is a very complex area of the law to navigate. You should schedule an in-person meeting with a local family law attorney.
