A Hard Lesson!

If you value your mental and physical well being, please do not waste your time, energy, or money dealing with Ms. Garrett. Ms. Garrett was suppose to be my attorney when I filed my first EEO complaint in 1994. As it turned out, Ms. Garrett was not my attorney at all, even though her name appeare...d on the paperwork. My first EEO complaint concerned a "health" issue. My supervisors refused to approve my "earned" sick leave so that I could have major surgery. To punish me for speaking up for myself, my supervisors had me "barred" from my workplace to make it look as if I was a "danger" to other employees. My sick leave was finally approved after my EEO complaint was filed, and I was hospitalized, but when I returned to my workplace, the retaliation began almost immediately. At first, it was subtle, but later after I signed a settlement agreement that Ms. Garrett claimed she did not have a problem with, after all, I still had a job, the retaliation, coupled with the harassment, and hostile work environment became almost unbearable. My supervisors were determined to run me off! At one point, I felt that I was going to lose my health or have a nervous breakdown. When I first read the settlement agreement, I certainly did not agree with it, but like the average person, I relied on the advice of a so-called professional. Boy, was I wrong! Ms. Garrett was not interested in my well being, nor was she interested in giving me the best advice. I believe the disciplinary action taken against Ms. Garrett was the result of the complaint I filed against her with the Washington, DC Bar. I did not want anyone else to be hurt by this woman's actions. From what Ms. Garrett was involved in at the time she was suppose to be my attorney, I am surprised that her license to practice law was not revoked! To this day, I am still suffering from the after shocks of how carelessly my case was handled. When in doubt, leave out, and if possible, get a second opinion!
