I hired Billy in Jan2021 after a modification hearing with my Ex did not end favorably, as the Judge ruled by her emotions rather than the facts at hand. Billy quickly got up to speed and we filed immediately to correct the mistakes on the child support among other errors the Judge made on the pa...renting plan in the final entry. We then were given the run around by a different subsequent Judge and the Courthouse for months, preventing us from having our day to present evidence and testimony. It was frustrating to go through all of that as it made me feel that the system was being unfair and biased and based on emotion and not the facts as I’ve always thought of the Justice system. There was also an attempt by my Ex to hold me in Contempt that Billy deftly proved false during the Summer. It wasn’t until just before Thanksgiving, after being put off by the Court multiple times, that we finally had our day to present evidence and testimony. I want to note that Billy was always constantly updating his notes and evidence to present in my case as the year dragged on and my Ex continued to make serious parenting grievances against me and the children. I’ve heard that some people feel like they always have to “refresh” their lawyer from a bigger law firm about their case every time they meet but I did not experience that from Billy. He was always up to speed. Billy presented great evidence and created such a great timeline of events that this new Judge listened to the facts (I’ve had a different Judge at every hearing - no consistency in Deschutes County, everyone passes the buck) and that Judge made the determination to fix the situation, the child support and correctly implement a sane AND fair parenting plan. We got exactly what I had hoped for and what Billy clearly explained he would try to do when I first hired him. Billy is a scrappy fighter in and out of the courtroom. Don’t let some of the negative press dissuade you from thinking he’s not a good lawyer. He’s the one of the best and will give it to you straight. He told me from the start he would win my case but I don’t think he realized how long the Court would jerk us around for but he stuck by me through it all and came through, even when things seemed bleak to me. I hired Mr. Carl for an issue I was too stressed to deal with alone, and I’m very happy with that decision. I’m extremely grateful for his help. I called a couple of attorneys before I called him. Mr Carl helped me in 2018 in a case where I was charged with, among other charges, reckless driving. I have severe, military related, PTSD symptoms at times. I'd just had my medications changed and was not adjusting, and, at the same time got hit with an episode that directly impacted my behaviour. O...nce Mr Carl understood what the situation was he did his due diligence related to research necessary to proceed. Counselor Carl then put our defense together, keeping me informed as we went along, and, most importantly worked with the Assistant D.A. to understand what my situation was and what would be fair all around. One thing that makes him unique is the fact that he’s been disciplined! He’s been on both sides so to speak so he’s not judging you he doesn’t hold himself above you and he ultimately is a damn good attorney. So good that even after he was an opposing party’s attorney, when I went through a different... case with another case I cane and consulted with him because HE IS THE BEST and when it comes to children and custody he truly does his best.
