I just happened across this site and a single negative review of Mr. Hessler, and just in case people rely on it I wanted to offer a counterpoint. Mr. Hessler has represented me with skill, good judgment and encyclopedic knowledge of DC's thicket of landlord-tenant rules and laws. He's also mindful a...nd considerate of the impact of our legal bills and factors that into strategic discussions. Any DC landlord would do well to seek Mr. Hessler's wise counsel.

Steve Hessler is a very good lawyer. It probably depends on the issue and the outcome of the complaint that someone may consider him good or not as a lawyer. In our case, Mr. Hessler resolved the matter in a better than expected manner plus charged us a very reasonable amount. We definitely would ...work with Mr. HEssler again if needed. This is just our experience. Hope helps someone to consider Mr. Hessler for a Tenant / Landlord matter. We hired Stephen for a case where the Landlord was abusing our elderly parents, claiming false damages and he was outstanding. Not only did he undo the damages being asked for but he helped build a case that gave us leverage and ultimately resolved our issue with as little legal battle as possible.... He knows DC Tenant and Landlord law well, works the system with mastery and we would highly recommend.
