If you need a real estate attorney, Shane Rooney is the BEST!

I was referred to Shane Rooney by my mortgage broker after an undisclosed issue was discovered with a house I was purchasing. Half of the earnest money had already been transferred to the sellers personal bank account as part of the purchase agreement, but once this major issue was discovered I need...ed to rescind the offer. At this point, the sellers were initially going to keep half and return the remaining half that was in escrow, but after 48 hours, they changed their mind and were going to keep the entire amount of money. I was devastated, as this was my first home purchase and the amount of money was significant. The loss would have left me unable to purchase another home for quite sometime. I met with Shane, who very quickly put me at ease. He explained that there were multiple ways to approach this to resolve it, but that the easiest would be a phone call to the sellers real estate agent. Shane had reviewed the contracts and the undisclosed issues regarding the property and he was confident that with that information he could get the sellers to return all of my money. Within 3 days of hiring Shane, the sellers agreed to return ALL of my money! I simply can not thank Shane enough. He went above and beyond during this time, calling after working hours to follow up and let me know what was going on. Shane was wonderful to work with. I am incredibly grateful that he got all of my money back. If you need a real estate attorney, look no further. Shane Rooney is the best!

Impersonal Experience Lacking Communication and Advocacy

I hired Shane to assist in modifying an existing Parenting Plan. After a great initial consultation, I was excited to hire him; I walked away from the conversation feeling like he really understood where I was coming from and would be a strong advocate for me. Unfortunately, my excitement didn’t last... long. I immediately paid a very large retainer (nearly double what my new attorney charged). What surprised me more, however, was when I received my first billing statement; Shane charged me at his hourly rate for the ~5 minutes he spent walking to his lobby to accept my retainer check and signed representation agreement. To me, this is the very definition of nickel-and-diming a client. I was extremely unimpressed with Shane’s communication; I did not feel well-informed and rarely received timely updates. When his office received paperwork on my behalf from opposing counsel, his assistant (who was also his wife) simply forwarded it to me without any thoughts or notes from Shane. The lack of professionalism continued when he informed me just how much not only my ex, but also her attorney, hate me. When I asked why things weren’t progressing, he claimed it was because he was having to “clean up the mess I caused.” He clearly was not the advocate I was initially so excited about. To sum my experience up, Shane accomplished absolutely nothing for me in the two months I spent as his client; there was no formal discussions with the opposing counsel, no mediation, no arbitration, and no court filings. He did, however, manage to bill me for nearly $3,000. This was a complete waste of money, and more importantly, time. My best decision was to cut ties with him, and looking back I should have cut my losses and done that sooner. I would strongly urge anyone considering this attorney to look elsewhere.
