My experience with Sarah Johnson at the Law Office of Camron Hoorfar raised serious concerns about communication, billing, and case preparation.
Sarah performed much of the work on our property lawsuit and billed substantial attorney time for reviewing documents, communications, and drafting the p...etition. Despite repeated discussions about filing and our clear direction that we wanted the lawsuit filed, the case was never filed before the firm ended the representation.
I was also concerned by inconsistencies regarding the evidence Sarah actually had available while drafting the petition. The firm billed for downloading and reviewing our document repository, yet later communications suggested Sarah did not have access to important folders and materials that were directly relevant to the claims.
There were also significant inconsistencies concerning who Sarah considered her client. I was included in strategy discussions, asked to review and comment on the petition, and the firm billed for reviewing my comments. At different times, however, the firm characterized Terren as the sole client, while other communications stated that we were both clients.
The billing became another major concern. We were charged for internal attorney communications, extensive drafting and review time, and work that did not result in a filed lawsuit. When we began requesting supporting documentation, the complete client file, and clarification of the invoices, the representation deteriorated quickly.
Sarah was professional during many of our conversations, but professionalism alone does not resolve the underlying issues. After approximately $7,000 was paid, we were left with an unfiled petition, disputed invoices, questions about the completeness of the file, and the need to find new counsel.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone retaining this firm obtain clear written confirmation of who the client is, what documents have actually been reviewed, what work remains before filing, and exactly how attorney time is being billed.
I also suggest avoiding the Camron Hoorfar Law Office in Lee's Summit, MO as well.
