You have a case if you can get an expert mechanic to back you up. You will have to sue the mechanic in the state where the work was done.

This is subject to negotiation. It just has to be done regardless of who does it. If you are represented by an attorney, have him/her negotiate this.

You have to take steps to minimize tyour damages. Rent a car chep and you should be able to recover that bill.

Get a release together. Write a check. Have the other party sign a full and final release. Give the other party the check.
