During May of 2011, a Syrian national unaccompanied minor legal permanent resident arrived in Atlanta after a 2 year stay outside of the United States. Upon arrival Customs and Border Patrol determin ... ed that minor had relinquished Legal Permanent Status due to prolonged stay outside of the United States. Minor had been caught in Syrian civil war and could not travel to the United States. Minor was afforded the opportunity to appear before an immigration judge. The minor argued that since his parents had never surrendered his status, regardless of minor's intention, he follow parent legal status.
