Columbia divorce attorney Becky M. Farmer naturally gravitated toward family law, because it gives her the ability to assist others during a difficult point in their lives.

“I thrive in helping people think through the issues and pick the option that best suits them,” Ms. Farmer said. “Family law involves a number of complex, emerging issues. I enjoy being on the forefront of the rapidly changing issues that are seen in family law.”

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Farmer was an on-air meteorologist for two news stations. That job gave her the skills to think on her feet, which is a cornerstone of being an effective trial lawyer.

“While I am always prepared for any hearing, sometimes issues arise and being able to communicate to the Court greatly benefits my clients,” she said.

If she could give one tip to her clients, she said she would encourage them to stay calm and breathe throughout the process.

“The family law process is a marathon, not a sprint,” she said. “We will get to the finish line, if we work together to achieve a common goal. I am with the client every step of the process to keep them informed and educated.”
