A New Beginning

I would like to compliment my attorney, Peter Moyers, as a very perceptive and sharp attorney. He was very effective in the time of need. I would like to thank Peter, Joseph Bugni and their team for the outstanding performance. I was accused of charges that were going to subject me to 15 years to... life. Peter kept me informed of the process, what to expect and his plan. Because of his work, I was found not guilty and given a second chance at life. I will forever be thankful.

Thoughtful, Thorough, and Caring Representation

Let me start out by saying my case was extremely bizarre. The government was charging me with Nuclear Terrorism, the first time they had ever charged anyone with this offense. The entire case was bullshit. What wasn't bullshit was the representation I received. Peter saw me in the back room of th...e courthouse prior to my initial appearance. He said that he had researched me and had a lot of respect for what he saw (I was a public figure). And while he didn't agree with everything he read I had said and done before he respected it. He then went on to explain to me that simply based off the criminal complaint he could tell this case was garbage. Unlike many in the media and community he was able to see through it from day one. Over the following weeks and months we would spend upwards of 100 hours I would estimate in meetings and phone calls. He would always answer when able and regularly stopped by. Then came the motions. These were not half assed Peter put his heart and soul into them. And it showed. Several hundred of pages of briefs. And thanks to this representation I became the first person to ever beat a Federal Nuclear Terrorism charge. And believe me I am not an easy person to deal with believe me. There were many times in which I was loud, obnoxious, perhaps even profane with Peter. But he kept his cool and redirected appropriately realizing the stresses that federal cases and the injustices of them put on a person. I could tell that this was Peter's lifes work. And not because of the money. Because it is his passion, this is his life. I honestly believe no matter what the job paid this is what he would be doing. As you are upset he is genuinely upset. It was because of this passion and only because of this passion that I beat a nuclear terrorism charge. Something potentially no one else will ever do. And it was because of this representation that the government was on its heels the entire case. Thanks Peter for giving it your all and keep doing what you do!

How I met my Lawyer and He changed my Life

First, let me start by saying I’m a habitual liar. I was charged with a crime that could take me away from my children’s lives for two minimums of ten (10) years. When my lawyer, Peter, first introduced himself to me, his first words were, “Hi, sorry this looks bad for you but I love my job and I pro...mise to do my best to get you home to your family.” Nice sale pitch I thought until now. He came to visit often and talked about the case. I expected that. I had lost hope and gave up. I even told my family I was offered 50 years so I could adjust my mind to doing the time (See! Habitual liar!). So much was going wrong in my life. I lost my grandmother to a drug overdose, CPS was trying to take my newborn away from my family, my favorite daughter born in November (only daughter born in November) had a miscarriage, and I was locked down 23 hours a day because I have a food allergy. I was stressed out and gave up, ready to take a plea deal just so the tax payers could take care of me for the next 10 years (just was feeling hopeless). Today, Peter came to visit me. He wanted to know how I was doing and talk about his plan. He was very confident that he will win this case. I already had my doubts. I know what the case looks like; I was living it, he was just reading about it. I know I’m capricious! He went on to say he talked with someone he would talk to if this was his family fighting this kind of case. He assured me again he is doing his best for me and to focus on thinking about anything unusual that day! Before he walked out he said, “You’re not a bad person. Let me take this to trial so you can be with your kids again.” Time went on and then he showed up on a holiday to talk about my case. My son was on life support two days earlier and we talked about that first. I asked why did he come on a holiday, he should be with his family. He said, “Karl, you have a trial coming up and also I love my job.” Growing up a mixed race boy in the projects of Chicago, not being accepted by both races. Being accused and convicted of a crime in’99 I didn’t do. Not being accepted by society when I came home. I never gave up on me before or my family or blamed any actions against me on anyone. Today Peter changed my life. He gave me hope, life, love, and fought for my freedom when I gave up on myself. Thanks! Karl M., Sr.

Peter Moyers as my Public Defender

I believe more accessibility to you and conversing over all the moves that were taken would have kept me more involved. leaving me to answer each step. There were long lapses of time between our conversations. When I would ask a question they were sometimes ignored and I was told to let you do your... job. With hindsight as 20/20, I believe I should have spoken when asked by the judge in regards to Linda Bohnert and her testimony. Just staring at her was not a determent, but declaring the backup paperwork I had in her instance, would have caused some declaration in this tactic. It was done for impact. It may have not changed my outcome, but I'm not the only one she's complained about or taken to court. The last minute letter that your included, to IWG group, was not written by me. I would have addressed that immediately. I realize all this will pass, but the impact on my friends and family with the testimony of Linda really will be in their minds forever. It will now be my job to come through on the other end and make good to all involved. Thanks for keeping me mentally healthy through this ordeal. You organized, to the best of your ability, with the info you had and presented it as you saw it would benefit me. Thanks Peter and Staff
