Peter Lederer Mattisson

I practiced law as a sole practitioner for 40 years and retired from practice in 2018 after having sold the house in which I practiced. I switched my license from active to non-active at that time. From 2018 until 2023 I lived with my wife in Mexico and the U.S. We had difficulties in the marriage through the time of COVID. Our verbal fights turned physical initiated by my wife, a Latina much younger. When we separated my wife went to the police hoping to get me out of the house I owned. She brought up fights we had months before embellishing her story of them to make them seem more serious. I was charged and was told that I could get all charges dropped if I agreed to a plea deal. It was either go to trial spending tens of thousands on representation or keep my nose clean for one year. I took the deal and all charges were dropped.

I then was contacted by attorney regulation counsel who told me they wanted me to agree to a one year suspension of my license. I didn’t care because I was retired and had no intention of practicing in the future. Regulation counsel wrote up a story based on what my wife had said with no input from me as to what happened.
