The stereotype of a lawyer. Expensive, dishonest, not working for the best interest of the client

I explained my situation to Paula fully, including that I had very credible information about what I could get from my former employer. Every time I suggested asking for more than that, she told me in order to get that, we had to ask for double, and that was unreasonable. In the end, she got me exa...ctly what I told her I could get and patted herself on the back. When I brought up that I had already told her I was assured that much, she said, 'well I remember you hoped you could get that.' I paid her a significant chunk of it for nothing. To boot, the front desk staff was rude, arrogant and dismissive. I never felt that this law firm had any interest in me or my situation. Find someone with a heart.

Employment and Discrimination complaint

I reached out to Paula, and after a couple of discussions about my situation, she believed I had a case against my employer. I hired her, and while sometimes, I doubted her recommendations, I trusted her and followed all of them. The case was resolved after going through the process she recommended.... She told me exactly what would happen every step of the way, and that was how it played out. Would definitely recommend her to anyone in a similar situation.

Extremely Disappointing Experience

After having a very enthusiastic (on her part) first consultation on the merits of my case, things went downhill from there. Initially, we agreed on a fee and, when the paperwork came for me to sign, there was a significant monetary error in the firm's favor that I had to catch to be corrected. I sho...uld have taken more notice of that and found alternate counsel immediately. Once Paula ascertained that there would be no big payout for her firm, she became primarily disengaged from the process and let opposing counsel dictate the outcome. I also found errors on final settlement documents that were represented as being "reviewed and ready for signature" that I had to bring to her firm's attention for correction. The process took an inordinate amount of time to resolve and much of that time can be attributed to Paula being unavailable or out of town. Not a good fit for me and poor communication on the part of Paula. I would strongly advise doing due diligence prior to hiring Paula (I can't speak to the merits of the other named partner as I had no interaction with her).

Unfortunately, this client decided to publicly criticize his employer while we were in the middle of trying to negotiate a resolution for him. We warned him not to do this. The employer then did not want to negotiate further and the client blamed me for not being able to get him a better severance. It is true that my dad died during the time I represented this client and I had to leave town for one week to be with my family. Although it did not disrupt negotiations in any way, I apologize if the client thought I was unavailable during that time. I don't know what he is referring to with respect to an error in the paperwork. He was upset that I turned down his request to lower my contingency fee on the case because he did not get as much money as he wanted in the settlement.
