Robert Richardson is an American and Canadian citizen who has operated businesses and practiced law on both sides of the border for over 15 years. He divides his time between the United States and Canada, and makes frequent trips to Asia, depending on the needs of his clients. He makes his home in Seattle, Washington. He has worked both as a litigator and as a transactional attorney, in private practice and as corporate counsel, in Canada and the United States.

He served for many years as the director of licensing for a successful software startup in Seattle, Washington. He has been the lead negotiator of numerous successful technology transfer agreements with leading manufacturers worldwide, including Apple, Qualcomm, Sony, Motorola, LG, Samsung, Bose, Sagem, Texas Instruments and Microsoft.
