Michelle Denise Bowlen

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Michelle completed her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Latin American Studies at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.  After graduation, she was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to undertake research in the areas of economic and social development in Bogota, Colombia.  She studied political science at the Universidad de los Andes and worked with a non-profit focused on community development and conflict resolution through sport.

After two years in Colombia, Michelle returned to the United States to attend law school at the University of Washington in Seattle.  During law school Michelle volunteered for the Immigrant Family Advocacy Project to provide immigration assistance to victims of spousal abuse seeking legal status in the United States.  She also worked at a legal aid office providing legal advice on a variety of civil matters within the Native American court system.  She was called to the Washington State Bar in December 2010.

Following law school, Michelle returned to Canada where she completed the requirements to become licensed in British Columbia.  She articled with a boutique Aboriginal law firm in Victoria and was called to the British Columbia Bar in January 2013.  She discovered her true passion for immigration law when she found herself navigating the system on behalf of her Colombian husband.  Michelle is fluent in Spanish and currently practices in the areas of Canadian and US immigration, and corporate and commercial matters.

When not in the office, Michelle can be found spending time in the mountains. As a former freestyle skier, she spends as much time as possible skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.
