Matthew Mitchell Oates

M. MITCHELL OATES is an associate in the Litigation and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Groups of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP.  Mr. Oates is based in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Mr. Oates’ practice has focused on general commercial and intellectual property litigation.  He has substantial experience representing corporate clients in complex commercial disputes, including breach of contract, patent infringement, copyright infringement, and antitrust actions.  Mr. Oates has represented major companies in the pharmaceutical, aviation, entertainment, and financial industries. 

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Oates worked as a litigation associate in New York City.  He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Wilfred Feinberg of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Richard J. Holwell of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.  

Mr. Oates received his J.D., magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law, where he was a Notes Editor on the New York University Law Review, a member of the Order of the Coif, and a Florence Allen Scholar.

Before law school, Mr. Oates graduated with Highest Distinction and Highest Honors from the University of Michigan, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology and Cognitive Science.  For his undergraduate research, Mr. Oates received the Walter J. Pillsbury Award for the most outstanding undergraduate research dissertation in psychology at the University of Michigan.  After graduation, he worked as a research assistant in the psychology department for one year, completing or contributing to research leading to six peer-reviewed publications.  Mr. Oates also received a Master of Science in Neurosciences from the University of California, San Diego.
