Madeline Tarnofsky

I couldn’t recommend Maddy Tarnofsky more highly as a tenant representative in a landlord-tenant related issue. Maddy recently represented my 90 year old aunt in negotiating with her landlord who wanted to move my aunt into another building in his portfolio so that he could either vacate the property... for a tear-down/rebuild, or simply to sell the land beneath to a developer. Maddy was recommended to us by a well regarded Manhattan-based real estate lawyer. There were a couple of things that drew us to Maddy (besides the fact that her fee was 50% less than two other Manhattan landlord-tenant lawyers we interviewed). One, it was clear that she offered the kind of high-touch service that my rather anxious aunt would need from a lawyer. And two, Maddy is a real, down-to-earth person who was drawn to the law, and landlord-tenant issues in particular, because of experiences with her own landlord many years ago. During the entire multi-month process of negotiations with the landlord, Maddy demonstrated the utmost kindness and the utmost patience in navigating my aunt (and I) through this whole process. One always got the sense that she was 100% on your side. In the end, Maddy was able to negotiate multiple landlord concessions, including a completely renovated apartment that was three times the size of my aunt’s original apartment, as well as large lump-sum payment. This week we’re taking Maddy to lunch to thank her for exhaustive efforts that reaped my aunt so many benefits.
