Lara N. Browne

Lara N. Browne is an attorney at Steinberg Law Firm whose practice is rooted in extensive experience with workers’ compensation law. Before joining the firm, she served as in-house legal counsel for a large self-insured healthcare system in the Lowcountry, where she managed a comprehensive workers’ compensation program serving more than 6,000 employees. In that role, Lara handled defense-side claims, advised on risk management issues, and conducted training focused on workplace safety and injury prevention.

Lara’s legal foundation was built on the defense side of workers’ compensation litigation. Early in her career, she practiced at a large defense firm representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. This experience provided her with a complete view of the claims process—from initial injury reporting through final resolution—and a clear understanding of how claims are evaluated and handled before an injured worker ever retains counsel.

After more than ten years representing employers and insurers, Lara shifted her focus to advocating for injured workers. She brings a deep appreciation for the complexity of workers’ compensation cases and finds purpose in guiding clients through a system that can feel overwhelming. Her background allows her to anticipate defense strategies while working to reduce stress for her clients and pursue fair outcomes. Lara is licensed to practice law in South Carolina, including the District Court of South Carolina.

Lara earned her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University and her law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law. While in law school, she volunteered with the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, assisting with investigations for individuals claiming wrongful conviction—an experience that sharpened her analytical skills and reinforced her commitment to justice.

Before entering the legal profession, Lara developed strong communication and negotiation skills while working as a recruiter and staffing specialist. These roles strengthened her ability to connect with people, manage complex situations, and advocate effectively—skills that continue to shape her legal practice today.

Lara’s path to law was influenced by a longstanding passion for helping others. Prior to law school, she explored careers in substance abuse counseling and recruitment, experiences that broadened her perspective and reinforced her desire to make a meaningful difference. Throughout her life, she has remained deeply engaged in service, including work in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, volunteering in hospitals, supporting a psychological services hotline, and assisting with Red Cross initiatives.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Lara relocated to South Carolina in 2013 with her husband, Chris. They now call Mount Pleasant home, where they are raising their three children—twin boys and a daughter. Outside of work, Lara enjoys Penn State athletics, fantasy football, strength training, traveling, and discovering new local restaurants.
