Kern Lewis is Director of Bailey & Galyen’s Catastrophic Injury section. Kern joined Bailey & Galyen in 2020, bringing extensive experience in brain injury cases. Prior to 2020, Kern was a lead trial lawyer with legendary trial lawyer Frank Branson, where he handled catastrophic personal injury cases involving wrongful death, medical malpractice, trucking accidents, and products liability, but most particularly, cases involving traumatic brain injuries. He understands the devastating impact that a brain injury can have on someone’s life, and he has dedicated his career to fighting against the negligence of others.
“There is hardly any injury more devastating than a traumatic brain injury. An injury to a person’s back, arms, or legs is terrible – but a brain injury is an injury to the very core of who a person is,” says Kern. “A brain injury impacts their memory, their personality, and their ability to think.”
In a recent traumatic brain injury case, Kern lived with his client for several days to be able to completely understand and experience the impact the injury had on her life. “When I told her story to the jury at trial, I was able to do so as someone who experienced it, not just heard about it. It makes a huge difference.” His client received the largest jury verdict ever awarded in that court. But even after the trial and the money was paid, he continued to work with that client and her family members to make sure she was taken care of.
Kern’s skills as a trial lawyer have earned him local and national recognition. He is Board-Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Civil Trial Advocate. He is double Board-Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Consumer and Commercial Law, a distinction only 15 lawyers have obtained.
Lewis has also been inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) with the rank of Associate and has an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level of professional excellence. He has been repeatedly named to the Texas Super Lawyers list, which is an honor less than 5 percent of lawyers obtain. Since 2011, he has been repeatedly named a “Top 100” Trial Lawyer in Texas by the National Trial Lawyers Association and has also been named to the National Trial Lawyers list of “Top 25 Brain Injury Lawyers.”

Fantastic! Awesome Job in the Courtroom!
Kern represented me after a horrible accident that changed my life. I had no family locally and he was not only my lawyer but helped me with all the things I was unable to handle during my hospitalization and rehab. He was very kind to me. I trust him completely. We went to trial against a whole tea...
"Kern's brilliance and tenacity in the courtroom is matched only by the passion and skill he shows in every case he handles. I have had the privilege of working with Kern, collaborating on cases, and I can say without a doubt he is one of the most skilled and prepared trial lawyers I have ever met. Kern has a true ability to communicate for his clients, because he leaves no stone unturned in the groundwork and preparation phase of a case. Kern is someone I would hire to represent me."
"Kern Lewis is an excellent trial lawyer. He is prepared, hard working, clever and creative. I would endorse Kern Lewis any day."
"I endorse this warrior's work. Kern and his firm are, without exception, some of the finest lawyers in the country. He frequently takes the difficult, "unwinable" cases and achieves verdicts for his clients. He is able to accomplish this because he cares to discovery the facts that led his clients to come to him, and the effects that their injuries will likely have upon their lives. I would commend family and close friends to Kern without hesitation."
