Keenan Reeves Goldsby

Keenan Goldsby is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School and has been practicing family law in Northern Virginia for over twenty years.

Mr. Goldsby's practice encompasses all aspects of family law, including the negotiation, litigation and appeal of cases involving separation and divorce, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and the division of marital property.

Mr. Goldsby has litigated and settled numerous cases involving the equitable distribution of complex marital assets, including closely-held business and partnership interests, unique deferred compensation plans (e.g., stock options and restricted stock), retirement plans/pensions, significant investment portfolios and trusts. He has also represented both recipients and payors of child support and spousal support (alimony), and in that context has significant experience addressing the imputation of income to a party who is unemployed or underemployed. He has represented both mothers and fathers in contested custody and visitation cases involving a wide range of issues including substance abuse, mental health, parental alienation, the relocation of a parent and same-sex parents.

Mr. Goldsby has been recognized by several publications for his accomplishments. In 2007, 2012,  2013 and 2015 he was named by the Washingtonian Magazine as one of the top domestic relations attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area. He has been named one of the "Legal Elite" in the field of Domestic Relations by Virginia Business magazine. Since 2011 he has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers® lists. He also has been listed in the treatise The Best Lawyers in America for 2011-2016. He has received a Preeminent ("AV") from Martindale Hubbell Peer Review Rating.

Mr. Goldsby is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Fairfax Bar Association (Family Law Section). His bar-related activities include serving as a Motions Conciliator in the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and Circuit Court, serving on the Fairfax Bar Judicial Screening Committee, and speaking to Fairfax County High School students. Mr. Goldsby is active in his community, serving on the Board of Directors of Fox Hunt Swim Club, Inc. and previously chairing the Publicity Committee of the Northern Virginia Swimming League.

Mr. Goldsby is also a co-author of an article entitled "Moving Out of Town? To Sign Off on Relocation of Children, Virginia Courts Like a Detailed Plan" which was published in the Legal Times in February, 2005.  He has served as a substitute lecturer in Family Law at the George Mason School of Law, and has taught Continuing Legal Education to other attorneys.

While Mr. Goldsby enjoys success in the courtroom, he strives to help his clients achieve their goals in a manner which, as much as possible, preserves the dignity and resources of the family; and to that end, endeavors to resolve most of his cases through negotiated agreements.
