Jeff Ryan Borup

I am corporate legal counsel to a multi-strategy family office, where I direct legal affairs across hospitality, insurance, real estate, and digital asset holdings. My work runs from negotiating enterprise agreements and structuring investment vehicles to building the governance and compliance frameworks that keep them defensible, including cybersecurity policy and a Corporate Transparency Act program for a multi-entity organization.

Before going in-house I spent five years as an Assistant United States Attorney, serving as lead counsel for civil forfeiture litigation and appeals and arguing before the Ninth Circuit. I later led anti-money-laundering and sanctions work at a national bank, and began my career as an Assistant Attorney General in Arizona. That enforcement background shapes how I approach regulatory problems now.

I write on private equity and AI governance for the Private Equity Law Report, have taught financial investigations to regulatory and law enforcement professionals, and serve as board secretary and nominating and governance chair for a nonprofit board.

My outside practice is limited to nonprofit and pro bono matters, and I am not accepting new client inquiries.
