During my first semester of college I was involved in a traffic accident on I-25. The police officer investigating the accident issued me a ticket for hitting the vehicle ahead of me and for having a d ... efective vehicle, even though I believed that the accident was not my fault. After researching the law, I went to court and explained my position to the judge and prosecutor and the charges were dropped except for a defective vehicle citation. The judge gave the lightest fine for the remaining charge. The experience inspired me to go to law school and become a lawyer. I will always remember how angering and frustrating it was to be wrongfully accused by the police and it is why I have chosen to dedicate my career to defending individuals accused of DUI and other criminal violations.
