Elizabeth Lee Curran

Elizabeth Curran is a seasoned litigator with over 15 years experience in the courts. After graduating from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in the top 20% of her class, she was selected to a prestigious clerkship with the Missouri Court of Appeals in 1999. Following her clerkship, she joined the products liability team at Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City, Missouri, one of the nation’s premiere litigation law firms. In 2002, Ms. Curran joined the products liability team at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in Raleigh, North Carolina, one of the largest business law firms in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States.

While these positions were prestigious and well compensated, Ms. Curran knew that this was not why she became a lawyer. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, Ms. Curran learned to respect justice and fairness. Her father, a judge, took her to work with him at the courthouse long before the phrase “Take Your Daughter to Work” was even coined. While in college and law school, Ms. Curran did internships with both prosecutor and public defender offices. It is there she discovered that her true passion was fighting the injustices of the criminal justice system and ensuring that everyone gets a fair shake. So after four years of working for corporations, Ms. Curran decided to shift her focus to people and joined the Durham County Public Defender’s Office.

After just two years as an assistant public defender, Ms. Curran became responsible for a felony caseload in 2006. She has represented people charged with all types of criminal and traffic offenses, including DWIs, Domestic Violence Offenses, Property Crimes, Violent Felony Offenses, Sex Offenses and Homicide. She has had numerous jury trials and is well respected among her colleagues in Durham County for her litigation skills, professionalism and passion.
