David Paul Stitzel

DAVID P. STITZEL is an associate in the Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Groups of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP.

Mr. Stitzel focuses his practice on patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing, opinions and litigation.  His practice has a particular emphasis on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a broad array of technologies within the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and mechanical disciplines, conducting prior art searches and rendering patentability, infringement and validity opinions.

As a former Patent Examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Stitzel examined patent applications drawn to various technologies including antimicrobials, pesticides, herbicides, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

In private practice since 2007, Mr. Stitzel has acquired extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in diversified technologies including small molecules, therapeutics, polymers, adhesives, coatings, fuel additives, lubricants, surfactants, catalysts, alloys, ceramics, glass, batteries, semiconductors, cosmetics, pigments, dyes, toners and optical devices.  He has also drafted and prosecuted mechanical patent applications directed to medical devices and automobile systems.

Prior to becoming a Patent Examiner, Mr. Stitzel was a research molecular geneticist at Duke University Medical Center, where he performed assays to detect for the presence of various pathological genetic mutations associated with brain tumorigenesis.  Mr. Stitzel was also a research chemist at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where he obtained extensive experience in organic and polymer chemistry.

Mr. Stitzel received his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law where he was a Law & Technology Program Participant.

Before entering law school, Mr. Stitzel received a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Wright State University.

Mr. Stitzel is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
