Nathan Elliot Floyd

Nathan Floyd is a leading American businessperson and principled leader in Japan. He is known for his strategic thinking, cross-cultural management style, and emphasis on fundamentals. He was invited to represent Japan at the 2015 investment summit hosted by the U.S. White House. As a business leader, he was invited to receptions at the U.S. Embassy, as well as the exclusive 51st National Day & 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Relations reception by the Embassy of Singapore.

Floyd is a former attorney at Japan’s largest international law firm, Morrison & Foerster LLP. It represents many substantial and active Japanese companies—including, Mitsubishi, Softbank, Hitachi, Mitsui, among others.

Floyd was the first Senior Counsel at LINE Corp. (NYSE: LN). He is best known for contributing to its rapid international expansion into Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Spain, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and U.S. Now, he actively invests in innovation as an angel investor and advisor.

Floyd is the first Chief of Staff (社長補佐) at the private family-owned Suntory Holdings Ltd., joining alongside its first CEO from outside the founding family in its 118-year history, Tak Niinami. Suntory Group is Japan’s largest total beverage company and a storied consumer brand. It is one of the world’s leading consumer product companies, with over $25 billion annual revenue. The Group owns and operates Beam Suntory, Orangina Schweppes, Lucozade, Ribena, among others. Although mostly involved in general oversight, Floyd assumes special responsibility for investments and growth initiatives in the U.S. market—part of the shift in the Group’s strategic focus after the $16 billion acquisition of Jim Beam. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest “division director” (部長) in its 118-year history.

Floyd serves on the Board of Tokyo Union Church, the largest international Church in Tokyo. He lectures at the Aoyama Gakuin Business School, a leading private, Christian university in Japan.
