Filing a complaint with the Bar Association on him!

I contacted Barry about a civil case we have in Warren County. He came down, showed all kinds of promise and told me that I should go from 4 cases to 6. Because of the magnitude of what I was trying to do, he asked for a retainer of $5,000. I'm not rich, but I got the money together by borrowing, ...scrapping my savings, and my paychecks. I felt like I was going to right the wrong that had been done and worked on this with that determination. I had to make payments over a period of time and while I was doing that, he was on top of it, or so it seemed. Answering my phone calls, calling me and telling me about different options I had, telling me that he was reviewing my previous cases and how promising it all looked. I made the final payment of several thousand dollars and he disappeared. I would call over and over and when I did get someone, they would tell me that he wasn't available. I texted him and he would occasionally reply with a short list of things that was wrong at the time on why this wasn't getting handled. This went on for almost a year. No motions were ever filed, not one of the lawsuits were filed, nothing was done. Then, when the statute of limitations was approaching, I started really blowing his phones up. I got a message from his assistant that he was ill and couldn't talk. Then I got a text message from him saying that he was so ill that there was no way that he could handle my case and there probably wasn't a case after all. He said he would look at the records and see how much money I would get back, but never heard from him again.

Stay away from this lawyer!

Please do not use this lawyer! I called him and after several phone conversations regarding my situation and he agreed to take my case. We worked out the fees which were reasonable, He agreed to file a motion after receiving a total of $500. I paid an initial $200 and then another $250 a week or ...so later. He said he would mail a letter with the details of the filing which I never received. My wife called him to ask how the letter would be sent through an email or through USPS. He was rude to her and stated he could not discuss any case details with her. She explained to him that she didn't want any case details that she only wanted to know how the letter would be sent. He then said he would call me and never did. Then a few days later I received an email with a letter stating he couldn't take my case. He also said he would refund the second $250 that was paid within 30 days which never happened! He even had a incorrect home address listed for me on the letter. I've called repeatedly and no answer them one last try and his number is now disconnected!

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
