Amy focuses her practice on civil and commercial litigation. She has a range of experience in litigation management, discovery and trial preparation. At Reilly Pozner, she has been involved in large scale discovery projects that gather information and develop facts for trial. Her specific experience includes extensive witness and fact preparation, taking and defending depositions and preparing written examinations. She has experience in drafting complaints, settlements and mediation, protective orders and engagement of clients.
Amy volunteers her time to an active pro bono practice that included the representation of nine same-sex couples who challenged the constitutionality of Colorado’s laws prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying and refusing to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples entered into in other states. Additionally, Amy has served as Special Counsel for the State Public Defender’s Office and in that capacity represented a Defendant in the Denver County Court.
Amy is active in her community. She has served as the Co-Chair and the Senior Co-Chair for the Colorado Pledge to Diversity, a group of law firms, corporate legal departments and government agencies who have committed to building initiatives to increase diversity and inclusiveness in the Denver legal field. Through this program, first year law students are selected for paid summer clerkships at member organizations. Amy is a member of Magistrate Kristen Mix’s Dream Team, a diversity pipeline organization that targets diverse, underprivileged and underrepresented students of all ages to help expose them to attorneys and opportunities in law. Amy is also involved in the firm’s internal diversity and inclusiveness committee. Amy volunteers as a mentor to first year law students and is an alumni mock interviewer at DU law school.
Before entering private practice, Amy served as a legal intern in the Office of Presidential Personnel in the White House in Washington, D.C.
Amy earned her law degree from University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, where she was staff editor of the Sports & Entertainment Law Journal and president of the Black Law Student Association.
While in law school, she interned for the Hon. Robert M. Russel of the Colorado State Court of Appeals and the Hon. Chief Justice Wiley Y. Daniel of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. In these positions, she gained valuable research and writing experience as well as exposure to diverse areas of civil and criminal litigation.
Amy holds an undergraduate degree in biological science from Clemson University, where she played varsity soccer. After college, she was drafted to play women’s professional soccer for the Washington Freedom during the inaugural year of the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). Amy is passionate about youth sports and has remained active in youth soccer, coaching kids across the country through her own camps and clinics. She coached for nine years at REAL Colorado, a premier, nationally ranked soccer club.
