Van Ness was charged with Sexual Assault after allegations made by an ex-girlfriend - he faced a minimum of more than 45 years if found guilty. At trial, Mr. Cooley was able to show the jury the impor ... tance of the inconsistencies in the ex-girlfriend's testimony, and through the use of experts, illustrate that the physical evidence did not match the alleged victim's version of events. Van Ness was released after the jury found him not guilty on all but one count of harassment: a misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of 90 days.

Whitaker attempted to leave the scene with her purse, but officers refused to allow her to leave with her purse and sought a ... search warrant. The search of the purse later revealed the presence of drugs. Mr. Cooley argued that the police acted in violation of a number of Whitaker's rights under both the Alaska and U.S. Constitutions, and the Court agreed: Whitaker's charges were dismissed.

At a pretrial hea ... ring, Mr. Cooley was able to elicit testimony from the officer that conflicted with his prior reports and helped to show that Mr. Hensel had not in fact been driving or in physical control of the truck. Mr. Cooley was able to use these newly uncovered facts to convince the District Attorney to drop the charges.

Hyatt was charged with assaulting his wife with a kitchen knife. Mr. Cooley vigorously prepared the case for trial and presented his defense through cross examination of the State witnesses. At the c ... onclusion of the State's evidence Mr. Cooley was able to convince the Judge that no reasonable juror could find Mr. Hyatt guilty and the Judge dismissed the case. The State, upset at having the assault thrown out, then sought to charge Mr. Hyatt with a DUI from an accident nearly a year prior. Mr. Cooley prepared legal briefing and filed it with the Court, arguing that too much time had passed to pursue the DUI. The State was eventually forced to dismiss the DUI as well.

Mobley was charged with two counts of Murder in the shooting death of two individuals outside of a Chili's restaurant in Miami. Through the use of expert witnesses and tireless preparation, Mr. Cooley ... was able to present evidence at a pretrial hearing that Mobley had acted in self-defense. The Trial Court refused to grant Mobley immunity from prosecution, but the Court of Appeals was persuaded by the evidence Cooley put forth in the hearing and granted Mobley immunity from prosecution.

Pringle was sued for $700,000 in damages for injuries she caused when she hacked Thompkins with a butcher knife. Mr. Cooley inherited the case while in a law school clinic and quickly filed countercla ... ims and pushed the case to trial. Despite Pringle's admission of guilt in criminal court, additional evidence uncovered by Mr. Cooley's investigation led Thompkins to abandon her claims.
