Van Ness was charged with Sexual Assault after allegations made by an ex-girlfriend - he faced a minimum of more than 45 years if found guilty. At trial, Mr. Cooley was able to show the jury the impor ... tance of the inconsistencies in the ex-girlfriend's testimony, and through the use of experts, illustrate that the physical evidence did not match the alleged victim's version of events. Van Ness was released after the jury found him not guilty on all but one count of harassment: a misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of 90 days.
