Josh Cooley is a trial attorney who represents individuals and families harmed by the negligence and wrongdoing of others. His practice focuses on civil litigation, helping clients recover the financial compensation they need to move forward after serious injuries.
Josh earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. During law school, he first developed a connection to Alaska while interning with the Alaska Public Defender Agency in Kenai. After graduating, he began his litigation career in Miami, Florida—one of the busiest trial jurisdictions in the country—where he developed extensive courtroom and deposition experience.
Over the course of his career, Josh has conducted more than 1,000 depositions and served as lead counsel in more than 75 jury trials. Most cases resolve without a trial, but Josh prepares each case as though it will be tried, because that level of preparation often leads to the strongest results for clients long before a courtroom becomes necessary.
Today, Josh focuses his practice on helping injured clients hold negligent parties accountable and obtain full and fair financial recovery.
Josh lives in Alaska and enjoys the independence and self-reliance that life in the state encourages. Outside the office, he is a licensed pilot and spends much of his time flying, skiing, hiking, and exploring Alaska’s backcountry. He also enjoys woodworking and building projects in his shop.

wrongly accused, punished without notification of accusation and without due process
I was wrongly accused by a state institution and punishment was imposed before I was ever contacted regarding the accusation and without due process. Had this error not been corrected it would have resulted in significant financial hardship. After punishment was imposed, I was notified that there...
"If I was facing a serious Felony Charge, I would want Josh Coley on the case. He is fearless and aggressive litigator and has a great mind for legal strategy. Highly recommend!"
"You get the best of both worlds with Josh. He isn't only tenacious, but smartly so. Rough and tumble when necessary, excellent negotiator when carrot gains more than the stick. Having represented co-defendants together and worked around one another for a few years now, I happily endorse Josh Cooley. He truly is a smart, zealous advocate that knows how to best advance his clients’ interests."
"I've known Josh Cooley for a long time now and have always considered him to be one of the best, if not the best, attorney I've been fortunate enough to work with. I was his co-counsel on several jury trials and every time I was able to learn something new & invaluable from Josh Cooley. Though I have only seen Josh Cooley in court representing persons accused of criminal offenses, I would not hesitate to hire him myself for any legal matter - regardless of the area of law."
"I've know Josh for many years, and I wouldn't want anyone else to represent me. From the time we worked in the same legal clinic in law school, he has been a tireless advocate for his clients. Josh doesn't let a difficult case, or personal inconvenience, or exhaustion slow him down. When you hire Josh, you will be the most important person he knows until he's seen you through to the end."
"Having worked with him on a criminal trial, I know Mr. Cooley to be a fierce courtroom advocate with an unmatched work ethic. His cross-examination skills are truly exceptional. I endorse him wholeheartedly. If I needed a criminal lawyer in Alaska he'd be the first person I'd call."
"I endorse this lawyer. First-rate legal mind. Exceptional and experienced trial lawyer. Josh is an unrelenting advocate for his clients that is well respected in the legal community."
