Effective estate planning includes having up to date Wills, Trusts (when applicable), Community Property Agreements/Nuptial Agreements, Durable Powers of Attorney and Advance Medical Directives. It also involves making certain that life insurance, retirement assets and other "non-probate" assets pass to heirs pursuant to a consistent plan. Finally, it involves putting appropriate individuals in place to assist with matters in the future efficiently, effectively and inexpensively.

Estate administration following one's death need not always involve a probate. Often probates (and guardianships for incapacitated adults) can be avoided with some appropriate and thorough yet inexpensive legal planning completed while still healthy. Putting off one's estate planning until it is too late often results in the sort of family turmoil and unnecessary expense that can be avoided.

Nothing is more satisfying than assisting with an adoption. Everyone wins! The family of the adoptive parents are blessed with a new child, the relinquishing parents are relieved of the responsibility of raising and supporting a child that they are not in the best position to be caring for and the child being adopted becomes part of a loving family that will look out for the child's best interests for the rest of its life.
