Hire him if you can. Excellent Attorney

Getting a not guilty verdict is hard. What's harder is undoing a guilty verdict. James Egan did just that for me, even after another appellate attorney failed to do so. The first appellate attorney was from Seattle, had the same AVVO rating as Egan, and was told about the issue directly from the c...lient (me) and ignored it. This attorney claimed it wasn't an issue. He didn't exactly lose: I was awarded resentencing - it basically did nothing. James Egan found the issue without any prompting from his client (me). I didn't prompt him because the aforementioned attorney told me it wasn't an issue. It's refreshing to have an attorney like Egan, who listens to his clients and gives them a great deal of weight on what is done. Unfortunately, I am a moron, and this almost cost me my reversal. So, be careful what you ask for. Jim(Egan) wanted to put two additional things in the PRP, and I insisted he omit them against his warnings and recommendations. He listened to his client and originally omitted things. It cost me financially, and it almost lost me the reversal. Luckily, Jim was able to add these at a later date. This was a miracle that you shouldn't expect. A client having a great deal of weight on how things are done is still a good thing. As clients we should feel in control of our case, and be in control. If everything was done our way, and to our liking, and we lose... We have no room to complain about our representation. If an attorney ignores our recommendations, and loses... We blame them, and feel cheated, defeated, and angry. Even if the attorney made all the right choices, it wasn't our choice. I wouldn't hesitate to call Jim anytime I needed an attorney or legal advice. After my experience, I'd let him do it any way he wanted to. He is very honest and transparent with his clients. I was his client for 9 years, and I have had a total of six lawyers represent me at various stages of my legal battle so far. My five star rating is fully warranted and unbiased. Excellent Attorney.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
