After I closed my auto insurance claim for a hit and run on 6/16/17, Medicare blindsided me in March of 2019 with $41,077.37 in what they referred to as "conditional payments" they had made throughout the claim period and now they were coming after me for reimbursement. On August 23, 2019, Medicare advised in a letter "that the principal amount of the debt and interest has been reduced to zero and our file is being closed."
