Winning back custody

This particular client came to me at the end of her rope. She had a neglect case filed against her and her child, who had always lived with her, was now with the father. The first thing we had to do wa ... s deal with the neglect matter, which we did successfully. The importance of this was that now, whatever happened during the neglect matter could not be used against the client and the parties were both on equal footing for the custody case. In the middle of the custody trial, an incident occurred in the father's home that can only be described as tragic. We rushed into court on an emergency application and were able to get the child returned to the mother in the middle of the trial. When the trial started, my client was looking at an uphill battle. Now the client, having had her child returned to her, was in an excellent position to regain custody.
