Top Notch Attorney

My experience with this Law Firm was excellent from the time I walked into their door until my case was completed. Sarah was very professional, approachable and informative. She answered all my questions in a timely manner with a straightforward approach. I would highly recommend Sarah and her team... of professionals to anyone needing assistance with a divorce.

If you're facing divorce, this is the firm to use!

Anyone facing divorce knows the financial and emotional upheaval that is about to descend on your life. Finding a competent lawyer to guide you through the divorce process can be a daunting task and I found such a lawyer: Sarah Brandon from North Country Law Office. Sarah's calm, empathetic demean...or was a great support during the entire divorce proceedings. She always consistently steered me in the right direction to ensure the best possible outcome. Sarah’s advice on two separate occasions prevented me from taking actions that would have further complicated resolving an already emotionally-charged divorce. Sarah is a firm, tough negotiator and with her many years of practicing family law, she has acquired exceptional expertise in divorce law. Her superior understanding of the law resulted in a settlement that will enable me to live a financially-secure post-divorce life. What was impressive is she held down legal fees by avoiding expensive litigation. Regarding Sarah's fees, her retainer and other expenses were reasonable. She called and emailed only when it was necessary. Sarah didn't play the all-to-common legal game of driving up legal expenses with unnecessary legal maneuvers. She is honest, ethical and I would highly recommend Sarah to handle any divorce, from the simple to the complex. Sarah is the owner of the law firm. Her office staff of Liz, Tasha and Katie understand how difficult divorce can be and they more than once put me at ease with their lighthearted sense of humor and kindness. The professional and personable services this firm provided made the rocky road of divorce easier. Finally, I had the utmost confidence in being represented by a law firm owned and staffed entirely with women. My confidence was not misplaced as my ability to live a financially-secure life is due entirely to this firm. Thank you, Sarah, Katie, Tasha and Liz for your hard work and dedication.

Sarah Brandon is an amazing lawyer and wonderful person

Back in January of 2017 my husband and I contacted Sarah the day after the court ruled to reverse an order giving us full custody of his two children. We were devastated and had to put our 11 year old daughter and 8 year old son on a plane back to their negligent alcoholic mother. Sarah told us strai...ght that this wasn’t going to be a quick or easy process but she would get them back. In June of 2018 they were both back with us temporarily and in May of 2018 we were given full permanent custody. We live 3,000 miles away and I have never met her face to face but she is like family, we wouldn’t be where we are without her.

Thank you for the review, Lindsey! The following clarification is posted with the client's permission. It was actually June of 2017 that the kids went to the client (custody orders that had been in place for years essentially reversed in favor of the client about 6 months after I took on the case) with the final order entered in May 2018.

Not the strategist I thought I had hired

I hired Sarah because the office she works for exclusively handles family law cases and I needed an expert and a strategist for my case. I had major concerns about my ex's ability to control his anger when caring for our two young children and explained my concerns to her. She was very supportive of ...my position and made me believe she would be able to help me, with the caveat that it would be a difficult case. Unfortunately what I was not offered was any alternative strategies. She empathized with my position and concerns but was not the strategist I thought I had hired. I trusted that she would have enough experience to understand when an argument is not legally feasible, but I was incorrect. She pursued my proposed case, which resulted in enough billable hours to exhaust my retainer within 6 weeks and made sure to cover her bases by reminding me on two occasions that my argument would be difficult to show legally. At no point did she provide me with sound advice or any alternative strategy. It seemed to me as if she pursued an argument she knew to be unsound in order to charge me for the futile hours spent building it. When I provided this feedback, she claimed that I had not listened to her "advice," but no advice was given. She claimed credit for the temporary limited visitation I had been awarded even though no part of her argument had been cited in the judge's reasoning. I could have presented the case myself and achieved the same outcome. To add to my frustration, more than 10% of the retainer I paid went to cover my initial consultation which I understood to be free. I am certain Sarah will respond by saying that I did not heed her advice. This is patently false. Advice cannot be heeded when it is not offered. I paid a premium for an expert but did not get what was promised, and I will pay for it just the same.

As with all my clients, I provided potential strategies to this client beginning at our initial meeting. The client was unwilling to listen to my view. The client rejected all of my proposals and insisted on pressing forward on the client's theory of the case. I let the client know about alternatives and opportunities for reasonable settlement that would save time and money, and the client rejected those as well. Nevertheless, the client obtained a favorable result at hearing. The client indicated approval of my performance at that time and asked for additional child support enforcement related work. When payment on the account to continue work was requested, this client then determined that my performance was substandard and refused to pay the bill. Unfortunately, I am unable to work for free. At no point did I represent that the initial consultation and strategy building session was free and no complaint regarding that charge was made until I requested payment on the account. I obtained a very good outcome for this client, which is acknowledged in the above review.

Couldn't Ask for a Better Lawyer

I have worked with Sarah for over 8 months, now. From the start, I had a feeling that I had picked an Attorney who would represently me fairly, and who had the best interests of myself AND my children at heart. Sarah listened to me, gave honest and fair advice, and kept current with me. When I emaile...d or called, Sarah always responded quickly and answered whatever question(s) I had. I believe I'd be hard-pressed to find an Attorney who would represent me any better than Sarah. She helped secure an agreeable settlement, and I am quite pleased with the outcome.
