Bryan G. Smith is a trial attorney and partner at Tamaki Law who represents individuals and families in high-stakes injury, abuse, wrongful death, and medical malpractice litigation throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Raised in Yakima, Washington, Bryan returned to his hometown after law school, committed to advocating for people facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Over the course of his career, he has built a reputation for handling complex, emotionally challenging cases with a combination of strategic advocacy, personal accessibility, and relentless preparation.
Bryan earned his B.A. in Psychology from Western Washington University in 1995 and his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1999. He is licensed to practice in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and New Mexico, and has worked alongside co-counsel across the country in nationally significant litigation filed in states such as California, Illinois, New York, Florida, and South Carolina.
His practice focuses on serious personal injury, medical negligence, sexual abuse litigation, wrongful death, government liability, and mediation. Bryan has represented survivors of clergy abuse, child abuse, institutional negligence, catastrophic injury, and medical malpractice, helping clients obtain substantial recoveries in both individual and mass tort litigation. His work has contributed to major recoveries involving the Boy Scouts of America, clergy abuse litigation across multiple dioceses and religious organizations, and significant settlements and verdicts involving governmental agencies, roadway design, defective products, and medical negligence.
Among his notable results are recoveries connected to the Boy Scouts of America sexual abuse litigation ($2.4 billion); major clergy abuse settlements involving the Archdiocese of Los Angeles ($880 miliion), the Society of Jesus Oregon Province ($163 million), and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe ($121,500); Central Washington’s largest known medical malpractice settlement ($12 million); and multiple multi-million-dollar recoveries involving wrongful death, government negligence, and catastrophic motor vehicle collisions.
What distinguishes Bryan’s practice is his commitment to accessibility and client involvement. He believes clients deserve direct communication, honest guidance, and a meaningful voice in the strategic decisions affecting their case. Bryan makes himself available to clients by phone, text, email, and in-person meetings, often outside traditional business hours, because he understands that serious legal matters do not operate on a schedule.
Bryan is also known for collaborating with other attorneys to build highly focused litigation teams tailored to each case. Whether coordinating experts, trial counsel, or co-counsel in complex litigation, he believes highly regarded results come from assembling the right team for each client’s specific needs.
In addition to his litigation practice, Bryan completed mediation training through the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and serves as a mediator in complex disputes. He is a member of the Washington State Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, and the Washington State Bar Association. He has also served on the board of the Legal Foundation of Washington. Bryan has been recognized by Super Lawyers for the last 7 years in a row, and holds a 10.0 “Superb” Avvo rating.
