Elder Law encompasses general estate planning as well as Medicaid qualification for long term care needs. I work with families to review facility contracts, to protect assets and to prepare and execute Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, Funeral/Cremation instructions, and other appropriate legal documents.

Estate planning encompasses planning for management of your health care decisions and your property during your life, and management and disposition of your assets after your death. It also includes an analysis of your assets to determine tax and beneficiary issues. The usual documentation may include Power of Attorney, Health Care Directive, Will and/or Revocable Living Trust, Community Property Agreement, and Cremation/Interment Instructions.

Estate settlement begins with an analysis of whether probate is necessary, and involves guiding clients through the appropriate probate or non-probate process. I represent Personal Representatives of estates in probate proceedings in King County, WA, and have also served as court-appointed successor Personal Representative for estates in which the Personal Representative resigned or was removed by the court.

Trusts are entities that hold assets to be managed for the benefit of others. I advise clients regarding many types of trusts, including Revocable Living Trusts, trusts for minors, trusts for disabled persons, and trusts for minimizing estate tax.
