Matthew Pierce

Matthew V. Pierce is an attorney at Sanchez, Mitchell, Eastman & Cure in Bremertion, Washington, where he represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation, including disputes involving businesses, insurance coverage, personal injuries, real estate, construction, and other areas of law, as well as in appeals.

Matthew spent his first decade of practice at a Seattle law firm where he litigated disputes involving corporate control, corporate governance, breach of contract, employment, insurance coverage, personal injury, products liability, premises liability, construction defect, real property, personal property, and intellectual property.

Matthew has advised clients in anticipation of potential litigation, including post-injury accident investigations and analysis of potential claims against corporations and individuals.

During the course of litigation, he has successfully opposed and obtained receiverships; stayed litigation during the pendency of other lawsuits and appeals; and obtained dismissal of claims based on breach of fiduciary duty, derivative rights, negligence, emotional distress, civil rights, premises liability, product liability, third party criminal conduct, property damage, benefit contributions, and indemnification. Not all claims can be resolved on threshold issues, and Matthew has been involved in numerous matters for plaintiffs and defendants that led to successful settlement, mediation, arbitration, or trial.

Matthew has also briefed and argued appeals and motions before the Washington Court of Appeals and the Washington Supreme Court and has assisted with briefs to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is currently the content editor for the Appellate Practice Chapter for the Washington Lawyer’s Practice Manual.

Before beginning practice, Matthew clerked for the Honorable Marywave Van Deren at Division Two of the Washington Court of Appeals. Prior to law school, Matthew served in AmeriCorps and was a mediator at the King County Dispute Resolution Center.

Matthew has lived in Bremerton since 2008 and is an avid beer connoisseur after his days as a home brewer. He also enjoys spending time hiking, cooking, woodworking, and travelling with his wife and two daughters.
