Way past his prime no longer a competent lawyer select someone who is sharper to represent you

Cam represented me in my contentious divorce case. I was in a panic after being surprised with a divorce filing by my wife. I had calls out to several lawyers after being served, Cam was the first one to call me back and I went with him. Big mistake which cost me a LOT of money! I ended up doing most... of the work for the initial hearing a couple of weeks after the filing and when I/WE LOST badly and got totally hosed financially for the first year until the divorce trial Cam's explanation to me was that "he was in his late 70's." I was flabbergasted! Through the subsequent year until my divorce went all the way to trial after more than a year under temporary orders, I had several divorce attorney's and a very experienced mediator express shock to me at how bad of a "deal" I got in the temporary orders from the commissioner at the hearing right after the surprise divorce filing, both financially and regarding custody of my kids. Shortly after getting screwed so badly I switched lawyers and she did a MUCH better job than Cam. Not only was the $15,000-$20,000 I spent on Cam for the first couple of months of my ugly divorce grossly overpriced and a complete waste, but it cost me even far more in terms of the extent of the money I lost during the year while waiting for my divorce to go to trial and more importantly huge amount of lost time with my kids which was way more than it should have been had I been smart and patient enough to ask a few more questions, trust my gut feeling and talk to a couple more lawyers before panicking and going with such an awful lawyer as Cam. Cam certainly may have been a good/great lawyer at some point in his career, but those days have long since passed.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
