Fifteen weeks to a first phone call; withdrew four days after I approved the motion

I hired Laura Gano (Dellino Family Law Group) in April 2026 for a Pierce County divorce with two young children and paid a $10,000 retainer. When we actually spoke she was thoughtful and clear. The problem is that we almost never spoke, and the work I hired her for was not done. My first phone cal...l with her was July 31 — fifteen weeks after I paid. An email I sent her June 21 laying out an interim parenting schedule went unanswered for 29 days. When I followed up on June 29, she was out of office for three weeks, and her paralegal told me her first week back was already booked. I had to escalate to the firm's CEO in July to get a call scheduled at all. I asked for a temporary parenting plan motion in June. She first proposed an interim plan to opposing counsel on August 3, two months later. On August 13 she wrote that if opposing counsel did not respond, the firm "may consider filing a motion." Draft motion documents reached me on September 11, every one of them still dated August 24. The declaration her team drafted on September 22 was built on a parenting plan we had already replaced; I ended up writing the declaration myself. On October 5 I approved four of the five motion documents with minor edits and asked three questions. No one answered. On October 9 she served notice that she was withdrawing. On August 27 she wrote to me that if the firm withdrew, "all of your files and any remaining trust account funds will be returned to you." Her October 9 withdrawal letter instead made my file contingent on my hiring a new attorney and put any refund off to late November. On the invoices I have, she accounted for about 7 of the roughly 40 hours billed over six months; the rest went to a discovery attorney and paralegals, including weekly internal status meetings billed per attendee in weeks when nothing happened on my case. Six months, roughly $19,000, no temporary parenting plan filed, and a withdrawal four days after the motion was finally approved. If you hire her, get every commitment in writing with a date on it.

Would not reccomend

I hired Laura Gano during a highly time-sensitive family-law matter. After I raised concerns about substantive drafting errors in documents prepared by the firm and asked how those errors would be corrected, Laura informed me that the firm would end the representation. I was left suddenly needing to ...find new counsel while the underlying matter was still urgent.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
