Biography
DIANA K. CAREYcurrently chairs the Creditors’ Rights and Insolvency Practice Group at Karr Tuttle Campbell. She has bachelors, MLS and JD degrees from the University of Washington and was certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification in 1995. She has an extensive background in bankruptcy and creditors' rights, representing landlords and creditors in contested bankruptcy matters. Ms. Carey has been a state court receiver, a Chapter 11 Trustee and also represented state court receivers, bankruptcy trustees and unsecured creditors' committees; she has at times represented debtors in Chapters 7 and 11.
Ms. Carey is a frequent speaker on insolvency topics and has often been recognized by her peers, including most recently the Number 1 ranked attorney in 2015 among the Top 10 Attorneys for Super Lawyers Magazine (formerly Washington Law and Politics), Top 50 Female Super Lawyers in Washington since 2005, Top 100 Attorneys in Washington since 2008, Best Lawyers in America (2014/15, including Seattle Bankruptcy & Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency "Lawyer of the Year," for 2015), and Chambers & Partners USA (2013/15). In 2014, she was inducted into the American College of Bankruptcy where she serves on the pro bono committee; she also serves on the National Super Lawyers Advisory Board, the Executive Board of the T.T. Glover Mediation Program,and Friends of the University of Washington Libraries.
Bar-related activities include boards of the King County Bar Association and King County Bar Foundation (President 1995-96) and she is a former president of CENTS, a nonprofit which provides financial education to persons in the Puget Sound area. Her community service includes the boards of Seattle Chamber Music Society (President 2012-14), and Washington Women’s Employment and Education. She acted as her firm’s liaison to the UW’s Law Firm Annual Challenge and served nine years on the UW’s Law School Foundation.
