Charlotte Holoubek uses her legal, technological, and educational experience to secure IP protection for companies, inventors, entrepreneurs, engineers, and academic researchers.

Using her unique background as an attorney, MBA, and patent law educator with a biochemistry degree and graduate studies in mechanical and electrical engineering and biotechnology, Charlotte relays patent law to inventors, complex technology to patent examiners, and IP monetization strategies to entrepreneurs and investors. Simply put, Charlotte will understand your invention and help you understand the value of solid patents.

Securing patent protection that will survive challenges
Charlotte works with clients ranging from entrepreneurs and startups to global corporations to learn what’s best for them and craft their overall IP strategy. She educates inventors and helps them avoid missteps that can hurt their IP value. Using her education in a broad range of technologies, she extracts all aspects of an invention to secure the greatest possible IP protection.

She believes in drafting patents that will not only position the client for vigorous prosecution and allowance through the patent office but will also survive litigation because it’s not until a patent emerges from that crucible unscathed that its actual value is realized. Using more than a decade of patent law experience, Charlotte has worked with hundreds of examiners to find solutions and overcome hurdles to allowance.

A focus on life sciences, software, and university research
While Charlotte is well-versed in a variety of fields and industries, her primary focus is securing patents in the life sciences, including genetics, antibody therapies, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. She also has experience with software patents and those for mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical devices, computer hardware, control systems, data handling, chemical and manufacturing processes, and automotive technology.

Charlotte is an educator eager to work with universities to help them monetize their research. She worked closely with university tech transfer offices to dramatically increase disclosures, patent applications, patents issued, licensing revenue, and licensing costs while minimizing costs. By working with teaching and research faculty and postdoctoral and graduate students, Charlotte developed innovative programs and procedures for IP licensing and monetization.

In addition to her patent law work, Charlotte has taught as an adjunct law professor at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law, one of the world’s top schools for IP law. She also founded the Louisiana Patent Academy, taught numerous continuing education classes on IP law topics to Judges and other attorneys, and conducted two year long lecture series on the business and legal aspects of biomedical innovations for medical school faculty. She’s also worked with the Louisiana Start-Up Prize since its inception to help innovative entrepreneurs strategically position themselves about their intellectual property.
