Elizabeth C Ligon

Liz is a graduate of Pomona College and Northeastern University School of Law.  She elected to pursue a legal career in order to work to address issues of chronic poverty and disability.  For nearly the first ten years of her legal career, she worked at the Seattle Community Law Center (SCLC), a nonprofit legal aid organization providing legal services to homeless and at risk individuals with long-term disabilities.  Through her work at SCLC, first as a staff attorney and later as Executive Director, Liz developed a strong interest and expertise in Social Security disability and SSI advocacy.  She continues to support SCLC as a member of the board of directors, and to pursue her focus on SSDI/SSI advocacy with Hickman Menashe, P.S.

Liz has frequently been invited to speak before lay advocates, consumers and attorneys on the intricacies of the SSDI/SSI application and appeals processes, as well as on various legal disputes that can arise after a person begins receiving benefits, including benefit terminations and overpayments.  She has a strong commitment to serving those most in need regardless of ability to pay, and continues to devote a significant portion of her work life to providing pro bono representation to low-income clients.

Liz is wholeheartedly involved in her community, and with her husband and three growing boys.  She is an amateur ceramic artist and an avid gardener, and enjoys combining the fruits of those endeavors in her kitchen.
