Family lawyer with heart and teeth

I met Matt and his para Benjamin when my previous lawyer had abruptly left his firm in the middle of my custody case. Matt quickly got up to speed, and was everything I had hoped for and more. Matt always kept the children’s best interest in absolute focus and never let me astray. He gave solid ad...vice, showed genuine care, and had a sharp strategy for all the twists and turns, always unwavering in his approach to not add onto the drama (and billing). It is a great gift to be able to look back and know that every win was done right, and not from punching below the belt. Going through it, the greatest gift was the firewall he and Benjamin put up in only bringing me what truly needed my attention. Benjamin deserves his own review as well. I became very ill during the case, and while I was unable to do the paperwork required, Benjamin worked tirelessly with me, combing through piles of paperwork. Working with Benjamin was like having a good friend helping me through the worst time in my life. I simply cannot say enough good things about him. I am beyond relieved that I have not needed their services since then, but I have to say that I miss having interactions with both Matt and Benjamin, they are two stand up guys

Best guy for the job!

Matt has stuck with me for for 12 years. I couldn't have asked for a better attorney and with the help of his paralegal Ben, they are a great team. Even post divorce he has stepped up to help me with custody problems and has always given me the right advice on how to move forward. Through the thic...k and the thin, he never backed down and never left me on my own. I could not recommend a better family law attorney to anyone.

Great Experience

Matthew Cooper helped me through a long, exhausting and litigated custody case. Recommend their services.

Excellent Attorney

Matthew Cooper and his paralegal, Benjamin, are top notch, I would not hesitate to recommend to others. My case was difficult and he handled with great care and consideration for my children. Well worth it.

Awesome attorney, "pitt bull" approach and will fight for what you want!

I normally don't do reviews, but this guy deserves a major pat on the back! I was referred to Matt by a high school buddy and my manager at my current job. I was told he was extremely knoweldgable, professional, and local to me in Kirkland. I had a good idea of the potential struggles ahead of m...e, and seeing how I managed to put temporary orders in place without an attorney at all, the war ahead of me I knew would be a tough one. Matt explained the process, what I should and should not do while we were establishing my final permanent parenting plan, and would also remind me when I got down that I have friends and family to "vent" to. He is extremely candid, and if he believes you need to adjust your lifestyle to get what you want, he isn't afraid to tell you. There's something about an attorney that isn't giving you the answers you want to hear, but moreso, what he feels is possible based on the situation. All in all, I ended up getting MORE than what I had asked for. My ex is the every other weekend parent now, and she gets about five weeks during the summer (one week on/one week off arrangement) and I pay NO child support! For a father in Washington state, I did extremely well, and I couldn't of done it without his help. He was very responsive and I felt I could tell him anything, which ultimately paid out in my favor. I HAVE recommended Matt (as well as his paralegal Benjamin Wojcik) and will continue to do so to anyone needing an AWESOME family attorney. I've learned that if you really want to take care of things the right way, sometimes it may cost some money. That isn't to say he is expensive but I previously thought I could make this happen without one. Boy, was I wrong. It took nearly 3 years to finalize my parenting plan, and with Matt's help, we were able to secure it for better than what I had originally asked for in just over a year. He is extremely flexible and is willing to work with you, I would definitely advise an individual with questions around process, your rights, or how you'd like to see your kids more to contacting him! Thank you Matt and Benjamin for everything! David Nakamura Renton, WA 98055

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2018.

Reprimand issued in WA, 2018

updated on 02/26/2018

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
