Barbara’s practice focuses on elder law and estate planning, working with families to create the advance directives they need to provide for ongoing independence. In her elder law practice, she works with families who are in conflict over how to manage the care or financial issues of an aging or ill family member. These disputes may result in litigation over the use or abuse of powers of attorney, the need to protect a vulnerable adult or a contested guardianship. When family conflicts erupt after death, Barbara represents parties in probate, trust and estate litigation. In these contested matters, Barbara seeks to find resolutions that minimize the damage to family relationships that can result from extended litigation. She is often called upon to speak to local groups on guardianship issues, Medicaid and estate planning, and probate. Since 1998, Barbara has served as a Settlement Guardian ad Litem and as a Guardianship Guardian ad Litem in King County.
