Professional

John Michael Myers was a steady and reliable presence during a very difficult time in my life. From our first meeting, he was clear, professional, and helped me understand what to expect. The process wasn’t easy, especially with an ex who made things difficult at every turn, but having someone I coul...d trust made a big difference. His team is great, too, always responsive and helpful. I’d recommend him to anyone needing support through a divorce.

Slimy Paid Professional Liar - $8,000 mistake.

I hired him for a family law, custody case. In 6 months I barely heard back from him. He was late or unavailable for every appointment and deadline he scheduled. When he finally got around to reviewing our case, it was obvious he had no real interest and fundamentally did not wish to understand the ...details of our case even though he had talked me into retaining him by saying that "a good lawyer is an investment." He never subpoenaed the witnesses for trial even though I warned him that they needed to be. He said, "This is not my first rodeo." When trial came my primary witness was already subpoenaed for another trial because he had never spoken to her like I said to. He went on a week long vacation with his girlfriend right before our 3 day trial. He told me that he would work on my case but would be unavailable and wouldn't speak to me until the morning of trial. When trial came he was unprepared, The evidence hadn't even been stamped for court, and my primary witness was unavailable. We had to ask for a continuance. I complained to him and he vindictively filed a motion to withdraw from my case minutes later, leaving me unrepresented. Then, he came back on the case the same day after saying he would if I paid him more which I did. He also charged me over $4,000 for what he claimed was trial prep while on his vacation. Eventually I had to fire him. I lost the $8000 that he was paid to work on the case and all of his mistakes were later used against me by judges. He had a snotty, disrespectful attitude and he deserved a serious bar complaint but I was overwhelmed with the case and couldn't handle anymore.

Not timely

Handed this lawyer a cut and dry case. I had already filled the divorce paperwork out and the ex refused to sign it. So all the fact finding was done. It took a couple months for him to get it on his letter head for review. Once it was reviewed by me he emailed it to my ex. My ex didn't get it. ... It took 30 days and me calling for him to realize he sent it to the wrong email. Once it was reviewed and signed by all parties, the lawyer sent it to the courthouse. It took me calling the courthouse to find out his form of payment was not good. I then had to call the lawyer to let him know of the sotuation. This continued through the entire process where I was calling and following up on this lawyer. I basically babysat him through the process. He billed me for all the hours without a discount. I feel he is taking advantage of people. My divorce should have taken 3 months top. I should not have to call the courthouse to be sure my paperwork was filed.

"I've worked with Mr. Myers on the opposite sides of many cases, some of which have involved trial and/or mediation, and some of which have settled without the need for alternative dispute resolution or trial. Mr. Myers is always very well prepared and does a fantastic job representing his clients, while also maintaining amicable relationships with his peers. I would highly recommend Mr. Myers to any potential client."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
